Yahoo! Groups Weather Report: 12-17-07

Below are known issues that may be affecting some Groups users:

Calendar Reminders (current forecast: scattered showers with clear skies in the forecast)

We are aware that some groups are still experiencing issues with calendar reminders not being sent. The Calendar Team now believes this issue is related to Day Light Savings Time and is currently working to correct this within all groups. I’ll post an update to confirm when this process is complete. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience.

Again, one thing to be aware of is that if someone posts an event to the calendar who is on moderation status, a reminder won’t be sent.

Delivery Issues with Centurytel.net Addresses (current forecast: stormy)

We’ve seen reports that Yahoo! Groups email sent by members with Centurytel.net mail accounts is not being delivered. We have confirmed that Centurytel.net is dropping, or failing to deliver Y! Groups email. We sincerely apologize that you are experiencing this issue unfortunately it’s not something we can control. This is not a Yahoo! issue but an issue with how Centurytel.net is handling email from Yahoo! Groups.

We are currently trying to contact the administrators at CenturyTel to work to correct this problem; however, they have not returned our calls or emails. If you are a CenturyTel customer and are able to reach them, please ask their administrators to contact our technical team by sending an email to: ygmailadmin-owner@yahoogroups.com.

If you have any questions or concerns please let us know by contacting Customer Care.

We appreciate your patience and we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Thank you,
Jami Heldt

I just created a group today and I keep on getting the message that the group doesn’t exist yet the url is very clearly showing up. After refreshing the page about 3-5 times then the group shows back up.

Not sure if you need to know specifically which groups are not receiving calendar reminders, but if so, you can add my group to the list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Southside_Knitters/

If there’s a better place for me to report that issue, I’d appreciate your sending me a link.

    Thanks,

The calendar reminders got to where they did not work for me. I maintain two family lists, where I tried to keep posted birthdays and anniversaries and such. Over the years, it worked fine. Then, in the last several months, it would hit and miss. I told my people, “Do your own reminding. I would be glad to say Happy birthday if I knew it.” ha. I deleted all my calendar dates until whatever the problem is is resolved.

    Hi,
I am the owner of a couple of Yahoo groups. One of my groups is acting up. It tells me that there is no activity for the past 7 days. Then if I refresh the page I can see the posts but if I want to delete one of the posts it tells me that the following “Invalid group decoraccentsinc”.

Can you help me? Has my group been deleted? or what is going on.

    Hello,

there appears to be a bug within the new “MyGroups” page that includes the Expand / Simplify feature. Even if I click on Expand and then View All, I only get a listing of the groups I joined on the server groups.yahoo.com whereas groups are missing that are located on different subdomains like launch.groups.yahoo.com or health.groups.yahoo.com

I thought I’d better notify you of the bug, as I’ve just noticed it, so you and your team can fix it in time before more users run in your door.

    Thanks for the help
    Yannick

Roughly 50% of the time i try to access the group (such as clicking a message link on the group’s web page)
I get an “Invalid group MeadeETXOwners” screen instead of the message.
Clicking my browser’s “refresh” or clicking the “Messages” link in the left column will usually cause the correct screen to appear.
Sometimes it goes the other way… after reading a message, clicking “Messages” in the left column may get the “Invalid group MeadeETXOwners” instead of the message index.

This is happening on two different systems, two different ISPs (one DSL, one gigapop).
(usual browser is Firefox). This is *not* happening on the other dozen groups i monitor,
and has been happening to MeadeETXOwners for (at least) the past 8 hours.
(”Now” is 5:30pm PST, but it was happening at 8am this (12/17) morning, too).

I have also submitted this via the Groups Help Form page, it’s hard to tell
if this blog or that mechanism is the preferred method. Posting here may yield a chorus of “me too on XXXXX group”.
    thanks

I’m having the same types of issues with at least one of my groups. The Freecycle group listed in the URL field is about shot! I’ve been fighting this INVALID group message since at least 5 am this morning, Monday 12/17. When I try to approve pending messages, it gives me and INVALID group message as well. Sometimes the page eventually refreshes, but I still can’t ‘do’ anything within the group functions. I have NOT changed to the new BETA. We’re still using the old Groups format.

So what the heck is going on? And WHEN will it be fixed?

Here’s another “ME TOO” I’m owner/moderator of a group and I’m getting the “invalid group” when trying to access Messages. I became aware of this about 4am 12/17 and it seems to be growing. Members are gradually having the same difficulty. Other groups I belong to, some are just fine, some are starting to have the same trouble. Why can’t we get some communication from Yahoo?

    I am a group moderator.

I’m also getting “invalid group” when trying to access messages.

And getting “Invalid list ID” when trying to access the inks.

Thanks for posting the link to more information Kirstie!

Also, thanks Yannick for posting heads up to other issues that you are experiencing.

The best place to send those types of “heads up” as well as report issues and request specific help with your groups is Customer Care: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/original/forms_index.html

Unfortunately I don’t have the tools to look into these types of things.

    Thanks!

When a person sends a message, they do not get the message sent back to them. This prevents them from knowing that it was sent and they end up sending it again. We used to get our own messages. Why doesn’t that happen anymore?

Why can’t I post a message to Moderator Group Central?

  18. Shalf said,

How about the weather for message search?

Responding to my help request, Gidget says the engineers are investigating this matter further. But it seems to be a wider issue than just a few groups.

    I posted some examples here:
    http://messages.groups.yahoo.com/Groups/Moderators/threadview?bn=grp-issues&tid=10915&mid=21703
of these, at the moment it seems that only the GMF search for “Jami” is now working. However, now searching GMF for “happy” misses 24865.

So search still seems to be hit-or-miss. it seems like it needs to be in the weather report, even if there’s no forecast yet.

    Barry:
I get my messages back. It may be your mail service that is swallowing them, gmail in particular is notorious for this (it’s a feature!).

You should be able to post to the message boards linked from moderatorcentral’s home page, but the group itself is announcement only by Yahoo staff — same as the former yg_alerts group (which it replaced).

Hmm… Just noticed that the times displayed on this blog appear to be GMT, as opposed to my local time.

This blog knows who I am (I see myself as the most recent reader) so in principle it could look in my profile, see that I am PST and report the postings in local time. That’s what the groups pages do. Is that likely to ever be a feature here?

Oh. It looks like MyBlogLog account doesn’t have a TimeZone setting. Too bad. Nevermind.

I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere, but we have been having difficulty searching our archives for 6 or 8 weeks now. This is a real problem for us because we have a rule that members can’t post a want request for the same item more than once every 7 days, and duplicate requests keep getting approved because when we search the archives using their yahoo id their previous messages don’t necessarily come up. Then when we go to the trouble to to manually look through every post, there they are. It’s very hard for us to enforce our rules if the archive search doesn’t bring up accurate results. Not only do we appear inconsistent to our members, but it makes a lot more work for us. Please advise.

I am moderator or owner of a number of groups, some of which have members whose postings are moderated. Whenever I am asked by e-mail to approve posting by one of these members, I do the usual thing and reply to the notification. That’s supposed to result in approval and posting, but for the last 6 weeks or so that has not been happening, so I have to go to the web site, navigate to the relevant “Pending” page, etc.

I have written to customer care and they say that there’s nothing they can do. How can that be?

Email from groups thats that I own or moderate are still being directed to the spam folder on my Yahoo email account.

Yeah, and the email will be silently discarded by the spam filter which cannot be turned off for letters to -owner@ . :-(
